About ASNAP Check

ASNAP Check is part of the asnap.io platform for scholarly publishing. It checks any text, from an essay to a manuscript, for overlap with sources, indicators of machine-generated text and references that cannot be verified, and returns the passages and the sources rather than a single number.

Why a separate instrument

A student handing in an essay, a writer sending a draft to a client and a researcher submitting a manuscript need the same three things at the same moment: to see overlap with its sources, to review passages that carry indicators of machine-generated text, and to verify that every reference exists. Most tools answer one of these questions, charge per document, or return a number without the passages behind it. ASNAP Check returns the passages and the sources, in a report that the writer and the reader of the text, a marker or an editor, can read alike. The pages for students, writers and researchers explain how to read the report in each setting.

Principles

  • Indicators and sources, not verdicts. The methodology and its limitations are public.
  • Texts are not retained beyond the life of the report and are never added to a comparison database.
  • No "humanising", no detector evasion, no guarantees.

Status

The service is in a free English-language beta: one check a day per browser, up to 2,000 words, no account and no payment. Full checks of whole documents, a plan for journals and an OJS integration are in preparation; interest can be registered on the check page and the page for journals. The platform's other instruments for authors and editorial offices are described at asnap.io.
