Text overlap with sources, indicators of machine-generated text by sentence, and a check of the reference list for records that cannot be verified. Free during the beta: one check a day, up to 2,000 words, without an account.
Sentences are compared with scholarly records and web pages. Each overlap is listed with its source and share of the text; quotations are marked separately.
Each sentence receives an indicator of features typical of machine-generated text. Indicators point to passages worth a second look; they are not a verdict.
Entries of the reference list are matched against Crossref records. Each entry is marked found, not found, or not checked, with retraction notices where present.
What the report says, and what it does not
The report lists indicators and sources: passages that overlap with a specific source, sentences with features often seen in machine-generated text, and reference entries that could not be matched to a record. It does not state that a text is or is not machine-generated, and it does not assign a probability to an author's conduct. Indicators have known limitations, including a higher rate of false signals on text by non-native writers and on formulaic prose; see the methodology.
Your text is kept only for the 30 days the report is available and is never added to a comparison database. Editorial offices can read how the report is used in review on the page for journals.
